Hummus is a delicious paste, which together with bread (e.g. potable or plain bread roll) can be a perfect choice for breakfast. It will also be perfect as a party snack. Hummus can be served in many versions depending on the ingredients that we add to the base of the paste.

Chickpeas, apart from being a treasury of protein, in large quantities have other ingredients that prevent constipation, promote weight loss, lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. It is also considered an aphrodisiac.


  • 200 g dry chickpeas / canned chickpeas can also be prepared express
  • 3 tablespoons of tahini paste (sesame paste)
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • lemon juice

Tahini paste can be bought in larger grocery stores at the world cuisine stand, or it can be made by roasting sesame seeds and then mixing them together with olive oil into a homogenous mass.

Additional ingredients (optional):

  • lemon juice
  • parsley
  • sea salt
  • paprika powder
  • chilli peppers
  • dried tomatoes
  • cumin


Soak dry lentils about 12 hours beforehand and cook until soft over low heat. Then drain it and mix it in a blender. Add tahini paste, garlic, lemon juice and enough oil to make a smooth mass. If necessary, add some water. Before serving, it is good to sprinkle with some more oil and sprinkle with your favourite ingredient, e.g. parsley, cumin, chili pepper, dried tomatoes. Hummus is best served with pita or matza bread, but it also tastes good with good quality rye bread or baguette.
